Introducing

Bespoke Wedding Rings by Mike Shorer

Wedding rings are worn every day and for a lifetime. Their design must balance symbolism, comfort, and durability, while remaining true to the individuals who wear them. Mike Shorer designs and handcrafts bespoke wedding rings defined by proportion, precision, and understated elegance.

Working in platinum and high-carat golds, Mike creates wedding rings that range from refined and minimal to richly textured and engraved. Each ring is made to fit the hand perfectly, with careful attention given to weight, profile, and finish, ensuring it feels natural from the moment it is worn. Whether traditional or contemporary in style, every wedding ring is crafted to endure both physically and emotionally.

Commissioning Wedding Rings

Commissioning bespoke wedding rings allows couples to create something personal and lasting. The process begins with a conversation that explores design preferences, lifestyle considerations, and how the rings will be worn over time. Rings may be designed individually or as a complementary pair, sharing details such as texture, engraving, or material while retaining their own character.

Every wedding ring is made entirely by hand in Mike’s East Sussex studio using traditional goldsmithing techniques. Clients may choose from a wide range of precious metals and finishes, and heirloom gold or gemstones can often be incorporated where appropriate. The result is a pair of wedding rings designed not only to symbolise commitment, but to become an integral part of everyday life.

Roman Wedding Rings – Historic Jewellery Reproductions

These wedding bands are reproduced directly from original Roman rings, drawing on designs from the 1st century AD. Worn as wedding bands, they offer a powerful sense of continuity — the rare experience of wearing a piece of history adapted for modern life. One such ring was supplied for use in Gladiator II, highlighting both its authenticity and enduring visual strength. These designs can be made in any precious metal and in any size.

Historic Roman Wedding Band

Shown here is another Roman wedding ring from the Historic Jewellery Reproduction collection, recreated directly from the original artefact. Simple, weighty, and deeply symbolic, it represents one of the earliest known expressions of marital commitment, reinterpreted through contemporary craftsmanship.

Bespoke Wedding Rings with Encapsulated Enamel Detail

These distinctive wedding rings were commissioned by a couple seeking something entirely unconventional. Their unusual request was to add a mix of their blood to the melted gold, which was unworkable due to its tendency to vapourise. However, using techniques for memorial jewellery, a minute sample of each partner’s blood was encapsulated in translucent resin enamel, creating a deeply personal and symbolic detail within the rings. The bands are crafted in 9-carat red (rose) gold, with one ring featuring a recessed bark texture plated in black ruthenium for contrast. The inside of each ring is laser-engraved with the wedding date.

9 Carat Red/Rose Gold Rings

These wedding bands are made from 9-carat red/rose gold, and the gentleman's band features a centre section with a recessed bark texture, plated in black ruthenium for greater contrast. The rings are laser-engraved on the inside with their wedding date. Mike can laser engrave dates, names, messages, sayings, poems, etc., inside or outside as desired.

Classic Russian Wedding Bands

These traditional Russian wedding bands comprise three interlocking rings that symbolise unity, balance, and continuity. The example shown is made entirely in 9-carat white gold, but the design can be commissioned in any combination of precious metals, including red, white, or yellow gold, in 9 or 18-carat, as well as platinum. Bands may also be created using custom mixed or striped gold, depending on preference. Each set is hand-made to order, allowing couples to define both the materials and the meaning within this enduring design.

Sculptured Wedding Rings

The young couple who commissioned these sculptural rings are friends of mine and wanted to take part in the manufacture. The young man is also a film maker and created a short video. The rings are pentagonal, with a ‘planished’ (hammered) texture.

Goth-Inspired Black Rhodium Wedding Rings

Commissioned by a couple influenced by Goth culture, these wedding rings were first crafted in yellow gold before being plated in black rhodium to achieve a near-black finish. Diamonds and amethysts provide contrast and depth, while the groom’s ring incorporates an outer band of purple heartwood, introducing an unexpected natural element. A bold and unapologetically individual pair of wedding rings.

A Wedding Band with Sparkle

Some brides choose to incorporate a subtle line of sparkle into their wedding band. This example features matched princess-cut diamonds set partway around the shank, adding light and refinement while remaining practical for everyday wear.

Diamond Wedding Band with Classic Court-Shape Ring

Shown together are a diamond-set wedding band paired with a traditional court-shaped husband’s wedding ring. Designed to complement one another, the pairings balance contemporary detail with timeless form.

Paired Wedding Rings with Shared Design Motifs

This pair of wedding rings demonstrates how a subtle design language can be carried across both rings. Four princess-cut diamonds are set in heart-topped claws in the bride’s ring, while the groom’s ring echoes the triangular offset in her band with an engraved line and a discreetly set small central diamond. Individually distinct, the rings are visually and conceptually connected.

Completing the Ring Journey

Wedding rings are frequently designed in dialogue with an engagement ring, or with an eye to future additions such as an eternity ring. For further examples of sculptural, statement-led, and heirloom-inspired designs, the Engagement Rings section offers a broader view of bespoke possibilities, while the Eternity Rings section shows how rings can continue to evolve to mark later milestones and shared history.
