Introducing
Trophies & Sporting Awards by Mike Shorer
As one of the UK’s leading bespoke trophy designers and makers, Mike Shorer has created iconic sporting trophies that are recognised, remembered, and broadcast worldwide. As a master goldsmith, Mike designs and hand-crafts trophies for major sporting institutions, promoters, and sponsors, producing works that combine technical excellence, symbolism, and lasting visual impact.
From golf, cricket, boxing, and sailing to snooker, motorcycling, shooting, and darts, the trophies are created to become the defining image of the event itself — not generic awards, but enduring works of art that represent achievement at the highest level.
A Career Shaped by Sporting Excellence
Mike Shorer began designing and making trophies shortly after establishing his workshop in a converted stable block on a farm in Essex in 1990. In the early days, he personally wrote to hundreds of potential private and corporate clients. One of those early responses came from Barry Hearn, then a leading promoter in professional snooker.
Commissioned to design three silver snooker trophies, Mike’s work led to a collaboration that has now spanned more than three decades. For over 34 years, Mike has created all of Barry Hearn’s major sporting trophies, including those for snooker and, from 2012 onwards, the World Darts Championship, now one of the most watched sporting events globally.
Darts Trophies & Awards
World Darts Championship ‘Little Sid’ & Runner-Up Trophies
For many years, the Professional Darts Corporation allowed the reigning World Champion to take the main trophy, affectionately known as ‘Big Sid’, home for a year before returning it for the next Championships. Following damage to the original trophy, it was decided that future Champions would instead receive a half-size, exact replica, now known as ‘Little Sid’, along with a dedicated Runner-Up award.
Both trophies by hand-made in East Sussex. The Champion’s replica features a globe set with a red Swarovski crystal bullseye, while the Runner-Up trophy is topped with an engraved crystal sphere. These pieces preserve the symbolism, craftsmanship, and prestige of the original, while allowing each Champion to retain a permanent record of their achievement.
Full-Size Replica World Darts Championship Trophy
Following his historic World Championship victory, Luke Littler, the youngest ever World Champion at just 17 years old, commissioned a full-size replica of the original ‘Big Sid’ trophy. Hand-crafted in Mike’s studio, the replica mirrors the scale, materials, and presence of the original, marking a landmark moment in darts history and celebrating the achievement of a remarkable new talent in the sport.
World Darts Championship Trophy (2012)
Created for the 2012 World Darts Championship, this trophy predates the introduction of ‘Big Sid’. A 4½-inch diameter hand-engraved silver globe sits atop a turned tulipwood plinth, stained in the traditional red and black colours of the dartboard. An engraved silver plaque completes the design, reflecting a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Championship’s visual identity.
Player of the Year Awards & 9 Dart Finish Pins
These annually presented Player of the Year awards are custom-made from jade glass, laser engraved and inlaid with pure gold leaf. Each award is supported by silver fittings and mounted on hand-cut Welsh slate with an engraved plaque. Also shown are sterling silver 9 Dart stickpins, awarded to players achieving a perfect 9 Dart Finish in competition. Gold versions are presented for televised finishes, which are all made by Mike Shorer.
Hall of Fame Award
One of the most coveted honours in professional darts, the Hall of Fame Award is hand-made from jade glass, laser engraved and inlaid with pure gold leaf. Sterling silver fittings and plaques are mounted on a hand-cut Welsh slate base, creating a trophy of quiet authority and lasting prestige.
Premier League Darts Special Award
These five bespoke awards were created for recent winners of the Premier League Darts tournament. Each piece is hand-made from jade green glass, laser engraved and inlaid with pure gold leaf. Sterling silver semi-discs engraved with a dartboard motif and silver plaques are mounted on ebony-stained mahogany plinths, combining consistency with individual distinction.
Bespoke Silver Dart Award
Created as a special commission for an individual player, this award features exact replicas of the player’s darts, crafted in sterling silver, finished with 23-carat gold plating, and set with diamonds. A highly personal trophy celebrating both achievement and identity within the sport.

Bespoke Sporting Trophies & Awards
Speedy Hire Darts Open Championship Trophy (2011)
Designed for the 2011 Speedy Hire Darts Open Championship, this trophy features hand-made silver darts set atop turned ebonised black mahogany. Twenty gilded bronze wires are inlaid into the wood, referencing the dartboard and adding both rhythm and precision to the design. A bold and recognisable sporting trophy created for broadcast and ceremony.
Newhaven–La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin Commemorative Sculpture
This sculptural trophy was commissioned to commemorate the twinning of Newhaven with La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, near Orléans. A stylised cormorant was created from hand-cut aluminium sheets, anodised in gold, and mounted on a salvaged jetty post from one of Newhaven’s historic fishing stages. The piece now resides in the Marie offices at La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, serving as both civic artwork and commemorative object.
Memorial Golf Trophy, Royal Eastbourne Golf Club
Commissioned in memory of the wife of a long-standing member of the Royal Eastbourne Golf Club, this deeply personal memorial trophy features a 4½-inch diameter hand-made silver golf ball. The ball was formed by soldering 135 individually cut dimples onto a spun sphere. The plinth plate is chased to resemble striped fairway grass and finished with gold and silver plating. Mike’s memorial trophies incorporate a lot of emotion, memories and help celebrate the life of the person remembered.
Blind Veterans UK Shooting Championship Trophy
“One of my favourites – an award for blind contestants with rifles.”
Created for Blind Veterans UK, this was a trophy for a remarkable charity, and one of Mike’s favourites. Designed for a shooting championship contested by visually impaired competitors, the piece is based on an actual target shot during Mike’s visit to the home. The target was machine-engraved onto silver and mounted onto a hand-turned brass and enamel form inspired by a gunsight. A powerful example of how narrative, respect, and innovation can be embodied in trophy design.
National BMX Championship Trophy
The National BMX Championship trophy is one of Mike’s most technically inventive awards incorporating the sculpted layout of the racetrack into the sides of the piece. A hand-engraved globe, plated in 23-carat gold, forms the centrepiece. Concealed within the plinth is a hidden compartment with silver and bronze doors, housing a USB drive onto which finalists uploaded videos of their stunts, played back via the trophy during the finals. A fusion of sculpture, technology, and sport.
Torvill & Dean Commemorative Awards
“I never know who’s going to call, or pop in - even Olympic ice-skating legend, Jayne Torvill.”
Commissioned by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, these awards incorporate the original ice-skating blades worn during their gold-medal Bolero performance. The blades are mounted in silver atop deliberately fractured pure lead crystal, evoking broken ice. Their signatures were engraved onto the heel plates, with a dedication engraved on the silver-covered sole plates. A rare and deeply personal set of awards celebrating sporting history and legacy.
‘Made in London’ Award (Harry Kane)
“It’s a huge honour to make this award for major sports starts.”
Created for the London Playing Fields Foundation, this award forms part of a long-running series presented to major sports figures. The design typically features a silver football goal supporting an engraved and enamelled logo, with adaptations made for athletes from other sports. This example was created for Harry Kane, combining sporting symbolism with refined silver craftsmanship.
Mark Fincham Memorial Award, True Heroes Racing
“I am proud to be a major sponsor and trustee for this amazing charity”
Commissioned in memory of Superbike rider Mark Fincham, this trophy honours resilience in motorsport. Awarded annually at the final round of the British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch, the design incorporates Fincham’s race number 903, with a repeating pattern derived from the number 23 derived from his admiration of Valentino Rossi, who’s race number is 46. Mark always said however skilled a rider he became, he would only be half as good as Rossi -46/23. The central mount is fabricated in silver to resemble a prosthetic leg, reflecting the mission of True Heroes Racing, while the plinth is hydro dipped to emulate carbon fibre used on race bikes. A trophy rich in symbolism, engineering, and meaning.
Atlantic Records retirement awards
Last year I got a call from Atlantic Records, asking if I could design and make a couple of retirement awards for two of the top Executives in the company. Now then, I always get a buzz from making trophies and awards for sports, TV and Film stars, but this couple worked at the company who brought the world Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Yes, Genesis and The Rolling Stones, among others !!! As Robert Plant said “….. the greatest Music Company on the Planet…” so I used the graphic they sent me, laser engraved it into ?” thick pieces of Jade Glass and inlaid them with pure gold leaf, in a rough texture, to emulate the torn wallpaper on the Led Zeppelin IV album cover. Damian and Carrie told me they were blown away with how they looked, so I was well chuffed
