Jewellery for film & television
Jewellery created for screen must do more than look beautiful. It must withstand close-up filming, work seamlessly with costume and character, and feel entirely believable within its historical or narrative context.
Mike’s experience allows him to balance scholarly research with the practical demands of production schedules, continuity, and durability. His jewellery is designed to be worn, handled, and filmed, often under intense time pressure, without compromising on authenticity or craftsmanship.
The Crown – a special commission
One of Mike’s most notable recent commissions was the creation of the engagement ring worn by Princess Diana in The Crown (Series 6), made for actress Elizabeth Debicki.
The ring plays a pivotal role in the episode and required absolute historical accuracy, emotional sensitivity, and rapid turnaround — a challenge Mike is particularly well known for meeting.
“As is often the case with jewellery I supply to films, time was very short before the cameras started rolling — but I always pull out all the stops to make it happen.
I later discovered that I wasn’t the first choice to make the ring, as a hugely famous London jeweller had turned the commission down. I had no issue with that at all. In fact, I was told that, based on the standard of my previous work, I had the blessing of a very important gentleman in Paris — which was a tremendous compliment.
The ring appears 23 minutes and 23 seconds into Episode 3 of Series 6. I was beside myself with excitement. To know it was made for the divine Elizabeth Debicki, playing Diana, was an incredible buzz.”
