Commissioning an Engagement Ring
Commissioning a bespoke engagement ring begins with a conversation. Mike works closely with each client to explore ideas, preferences, and practical considerations, guiding the process with sensitivity and experience. Whether starting from a clear vision or a more tentative idea, the design evolves through discussion, sketches, and the careful selection of gemstones and metals.
Every engagement ring is made entirely by hand in Mike’s East Sussex studio, with particular attention paid to longevity, security of setting, and wearability. He can also incorporate heirloom diamonds or gemstones, reworking existing pieces into a new design that carries history forward. The result is an engagement ring of lasting integrity — unique to the couple and created to be worn for a lifetime.
Oval Diamond Engagement Ring
This sculptural engagement ring centres on an exceptional EVVS oval diamond, flanked by grain-set brilliant-cut diamonds. The hand-crafted shank is shaped with flowing contours and finished with contrasting textures — high polish on one side and a brushed satin finish on the other — creating subtle visual tension and depth.
Black Rhodium Engagement & Wedding Rings
This striking pair of rings was commissioned by a couple deeply influenced by Goth culture, with a clear desire for a dark, dramatic aesthetic. The rings were first crafted in yellow gold and then plated with black rhodium. The groom’s ring was further customised with purple heartwood around the outside, giving it an epic look.
Statement Engagement Rings & Sculptural Designs
For some clients, an engagement ring is not about tradition, but about expression. Statement engagement rings offer greater freedom in form, texture, and gemstone selection, often resulting in pieces that feel closer to miniature sculpture than to conventional jewellery. These designs are particularly well-suited to heirloom stones, unconventional materials, and clients seeking something entirely individual.
